Charged me $65 dollars for a wash and set, which is usually $40 dollars at this salon because I have natural black/kinky hair. My hair is short-medium length. I think I would have been less upset if they had been upfront with the price instead of making up some random number at the cash register especially when the normal price is listed right next to it. I will not go back.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GO TO THIS SALON. ***especially*** if you’re a black woman with natural hair. I HAD TO SHAVE MY WHOLE HEAD AND START OVER!!! they keep deleting my review so i’ll leave it again. i’ve been to this salon about 3 times (in a 1 year period) because i live in the neighborhood and i go to get a wash/blowout before getting my hair braided. the last time i went, the woman working the second chair from the left, SEVERELY heat damaged my hair. when i washed it afterwards and realized it didn’t revert, i went back to the salon (with my dominican roomate), so that i could get a refund. after showing the receptionist and the manager picture & video evidence of my SEVERELY heat damaged hair, they both said it was “impossible” for a blow dryer or flat iron to do that… when a simple google search will debunk that boldfaced lie. additionally, any legitimate hairstylist would know how heat damage can occur (even when using heat protectant) and how to prevent it. with my roomate translating, they said several disgusting racist remarks to me, and then refused to give me the owner of the salon’s name or information. i didn’t get even a partial refund or an offer/attempt to fix my completely damaged hair. so again, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GO TO THIS SALON. I HAD TO SHAVE MY WHOLE HEAD AND START OVER!!!

They are incredible at a variety of Hair-types. I have thick hair and am a crybaby every time i get relaxers. I got one here and it was such a pain free experience. I recommend them for any hair grade

The Best Yet! I am very pleased with my hair..Lenora did a fantastic job on me..I loved how my hair is feeling and looking.. Thank you for your patience I know my hair wasn't an easy task but you made it a breeze and no constant complaining or attitude..She took her time to make sure the perm was out completely which I appreciate. Her daughter is a Gem 💎 the whole staff. HUGE THANK YOU and see you again soon.

Lanora is so sweet and professional she did a Virgin Relaxer , treatment & rinse on me. She was gentle, fast, gave me what I needed with no attitude. She scrub/ massaged my hair as she was washing it. It felt sooooo amazing I almost feel asleep. This is how hairstyle should treat and wash a customer hair. Not scratching and banging your head on the procelin sink Or giving attitude. I am so happy and pleased to have found this salon to give me what I want and need. I was relaxed and comfortable. Thank you so much Lanora for your wonderful customer service. 🤗💕 Definitely will be back!!!

Me and my grandmother have been visiting this place for many years ever since I was young and they have always been amazing. From hair cuts, to color, to perms, to blowing out my natural hair etc. They are always amazing and they care about their customers hair always before making an extra buck. I will always come to sophys as long as they are open! 💜

Owner is extremely rude. Extremely rough on hair and when they wash they only use shampoo no conditioner. And they also take their own tip out of your change!

First time going there yesterday. I was looking for a new Dominican salon because my original location closed down and my back up location is no good. My hair have been breaking and thinning like crazy these past few months going to them. I read the reviews on this location and the other one lower down on Flatbush and they seem really good so I decided to give them a try. I was originally heading to Sophys 3 but I was coming from downtown Brooklyn and this one was closer. I Got there at a good time because right after I came in about five people came in right after. Two workers were present. They were both nice. I didn’t catch their names however. I got a perm and wash and set which was $55. Prices are based on hair length and what your getting done. Prices are a bit higher than I’m used to paying at a Dominican hair salon but I don’t mind paying it if my hair I getting treated good. First experience was good, still early to give a solid 5 star reviews. I will give an update after a few more visits.

I visited this salon in September 2020, I was referred by a friend because my previous salon went out of business . Everyone in this salon is professional , no wait time , the wash and set is amazing . Kayla did my hair , she is super friendly and takes her time. They are a bit pricy compared to what I use to pay, I don’t think $15 wash exists anymore lol. The only issue I had is too much grease was used in my hair , but that was the only down fall really , because I sweat in my hair especially when a lot a hair grease is used . I will definitely be visiting this salon again ,my experience was more positive than negative so I decided to give a 5 star !

Its been 3 months since I had a wash and set as we have been in pandemic. My hair hasn't been great to say the least as it saw scalp abrasions, breakage, etc. So, when NYC set Phase 2 for 6/22-- I was ecstatic. However, due to new procedures, numerous hair salons are still closed or have shut down completely. Mine included. So, of course I was in panic. Lucky I read about Sophy's through yelp and gave them a call. I was there within the hour and I was amazed with what I saw. 1. The beautician took me right away 2. Safety precautions was in full force including partitions and cleaning after every customer. The beautician I had ( I didn't catch her name) was very thorough. My hair and scalp felt so clean again. And I loved that the deep treatment was longer than 10 minutes and she paid very close attention to my scalp. I was very happy with the end result. Granted I paid $10 more than I normally pay but due the pandemic its not too surprising and I am happy with the outcome. I also loved that the atmosphere was very friendly and it was a very spacious space. I will return in the near future. :) .
