My wife and I had the pleasure of spending our anniversary at the one-of-a-kind Smithmore Castle this November. As beloved fans of the Victorian Age, we were simply blown away. It exceeded our expectations on every level. The meticulous attention to detail in each facet of our stay was overwhelmingly refreshing. The chef and his staff provided a truly unforgettable five-star experience. Mr. Braddford was exceptional with his service, knowledge, and genuine thoughtfulness. Lady Jessie Marie was absolutely splendid as well. The cuisine is second to none by the widest of margins. It is unlike anything we've had throughout our travels, both domestically and abroad. We began to look at our calendars to schedule our next visit before we departed the grounds. Our next stay can't come soon enough!

Sunsets to die for! We recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary with a romantic 3-night stay at Smithmore Castle, and it was truly a dream come true. As a British couple vacationing in America, we were searching for a unique experience that would remind us of home, and Smithmore Castle exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were transported back to Victorian Britain. The castle’s authentic architecture and exquisite decor created an atmosphere of elegance and charm that felt incredibly genuine. It was like stepping into a historical romance novel! Our stay was filled with delightful experiences that made our anniversary unforgettable. We indulged in a couple’s massage, which was incredibly relaxing and the perfect way to start our getaway. The tea time was another highlight, offering a selection of fine teas and delicious pastries that rivaled any we’ve had back in the UK. The culinary experience at Smithmore Castle was nothing short of extraordinary. The award-winning food was out of this world, with each meal carefully crafted to perfection. I recently had the privilege of hosting my summer wedding at the breathtaking Smithmore Castle, and it was truly a dream come true. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the Victorian elegance and proper etiquette that the estate exudes. The authenticity of Smithmore Castle is unmatched, and knowing that it is a traditional establishment added a special, comforting touch to our celebration.

We had our wedding mid-June at Smithmore Castle, after reserving a dinner to interview the staff and get a sense of the venue and food. We paid about $280 for that, with great food (but grocery-store wine); nonetheless, we were impressed with the creativity of the chef selections, the personal service, and the cuisine. We were there to ourselves. Deborah was great. Pricing for the event was as quoted The castle presents itself as a private dwelling, not a B&B or hotel. It is beautiful, with its white and light sage paint - part hunting lodge, part luxurious resort. The fountain, the spiral staircase, the turrets, esp the view....The large rooms are redone, the beds especially inviting and terrifically comfortable. Each one has somewhat of a theme or 'feel' to it. We rented the castle for our wedding, then guests booked their own rooms. The room cost was off-putting to some. I feel that it would be marketed better as per-room rather than per-person, then pay for breakfast/dinner/etc à la carte. A $350+ per person seems like so much. $700 a room!! But if you add on wonderfully presented breakfast and 3 course dinner in a formal dining room, with exquisite service, well - it just doesn't reflect that unless you do the math. Just my opinion, make it as separate and special - because it truly is. We appreciate the 'old school' manners, greetings, white-glove treatment, a footman who actually opens your door (Thank you Braddford, you were incredible!) and Abigail, Benjamin, Jessie, everyone was so nice. Formal, yet friendly and personable. Food, service, accommodating my mother's food intolerances, making sure everything was beautiful...I can't say enough. I had brought antique glasses which they took exquisite care of before and after. (Make sure they put the wine bottles in the fridge well before your event, or bring them chilled.) A couple of suggestions for the owner. If you're going to have a place to land a helicopter, and an S550 in the driveway, then pave the driveway! We made the mistake of driving our Ferrari up to dinner when we were still deciding on wedding venues. No one with a car that they care about is going to knowingly drive it up that steep gravelly mountain path. Which means no one will drive away with a "Just Married" sign either. Another (to me, even more important) suggestion. Light up the "privy", or bathroom. We women will be dressed up. We need some light, and we don't want to go in there to find Heart of Darkness and a urinal 2 meters to our left with no partition. It's dark but we can still see that, and it's America - we’re not used to it. Many of our guests sadly wound up using other guests' rooms to freshen up during our event. Some of the on-site activities were reasonably priced; others not so much. Some of us would have loved a carriage ride and a spa treatment, but it was just so much higher than expected. We loved the cave exploration. Didn't get to see the royal cluckery. I wonder if bride and groom could get a 'private' tour of the grounds before, that would've been fun. Overall, very lovely, and the staff, the locally/on-site sourced cuisine, the views, all magical!

3 lessons from accidentally having an entire castle to ourselves... My adorable and slightly bananas wife thought it'd be a great idea to reserve dinner and a night's stay at the incredible Smithmore Castle for my birthday. I'm a sales and customer experience coach, she knew I'd love it on a personal AND professional level. She was right. To our surprise, all the other guests scheduled for that evening had to reschedule for different dates at the last minute. (Yes I know...I've also seen the beginning of this scary movie...) Despite my expectations of running into an 18th-century ghost or Colonel Mustard and the Scooby Doo gang, it was a truly remarkable experience. Lesson 1 -> You're either all in, or not in at all. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a footman in a waistcoat and white gloves who offered to valet our very regal Hyundai Tuscon. He escorted us inside through massive doors, where we were then introduced to the head of the house who delightfully offered Champaign and proceeded to lead us on a formal tour of the grounds and every meticulously designed room. This wasn't a hotel. This wasn't an AirBNB. Smithmore is a living breathing castle. A Victorian home hosting Andrea and I as its distinguished guests, complete with a staff dedicated around the clock to preserving the lifestyle of that grand era. They were all in, and for 24 hours, so were we. Lesson 2 -> Stay one step ahead of your customers and show them EXACTLY how to use your product. Upon arriving at our room, I noticed her luggage placed at the lady's vanity and mine at the gentleman's valet. A card on the desk with an invitation to dinner caught my eye. "Dinner is served promptly at 7pm. Semi-formal attire is expected. Proper etiquette will be observed." Making our best "fancy faces" at each other we excitedly got ready. You're here for a unique experience, we'll guide the way. Lesson 3 -> Make it fun. Could this have been a snooty affair? Absolutely. Did the Chef explain how a Victorian dinner works? 100%. (Why. So. Many. Forks?🍴) Did they also laugh and play along with us? You bet. We've seen our fair share of castles and dinners. What we got here was Smithmore, the Victorian age come to life. All in, expertly orchestrated and just plain fun. 🏰 ❤️.

AMAZING! We were a group of 8 and luckily had the place to ourselves. The service is impeccable. Bradford has only been there a couple months but is truly perfect at his job. Liam was our guide for a hike. He filled in for the regular guide and hadn't done that hike before but you would never know. He was so enjoyable to be with and pointed out local fauna for us. The castle is absolutely 5+ stars Chef Benjamin, take a bow! You spoiled us. Your food is art and delicious. I'm gluten intolerant and you made sure my food experience was just as special as everyone else's. Thank you! You made us feel so welcome. We all loved the tour. Next time I want to see before pictures though! This was such a unique experience for us that we weren't sure we left a satisfactory tip, fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞 Thank you again for your kindness and wonderful hospitality!!!!! We do hope we have the pleasure of coming back!

I can't say enough wonderful things about Smithmore Castle. I feel it's important to leave a review as a solo traveler, as some solo travelers may feel somewhat intimidated about going to a magical castle that feels geared towards couples. However, I was made to feel like royalty and the 5 star service I received was something that I never quite experienced before. Staying at Smithmore Castle is an experience like no other in the world. The service you receive is not a performance by any means, but a sincere love for the art of treating people how you would want to be treated. While I have forgotten several names, everyone that I came across was simply marvelous and like other reviewers have mentioned, I long to find time to come back and visit this magical Fairytale Castle once again!

If I could give more stars, I would. My significant other and I went there for our 20th anniversary, and the staff went above and beyond. The food was simply excellent. I had elk, while my partner had venison, and both were amazing. The cheesecake for dessert was not only elegant, but perfectly balanced. Not too rich, not too tangy. The castle itself is gorgeous, and we cannot wait to go back. All in all, it was an experience to remember.

My friends and I aren’t the fancy type, I admit I was nervous to stay here at first, but from the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome and it was clear each of the staff wholeheartedly cared about the quality of our stay. Our Attendant Aislyn was so personable she immediately made us feel comfortable and we couldn’t get enough of her and her bright spirit and grace, and Braddford the Footman on top of being a handsome and elegant conversationalist also makes a fantastic cocktail. On top of the wonderful staff the food is also out of this world and Chef Benjamin, Lady Jessie, and Sir Carlyle made us feel like part of their family. No matter who you are or where you come from, this place is like a haven on top of a mountain.

My stay here was absolutely incredible! The view was worth it alone but the experience was truly made unique and wonderful by the hardworking staff. They were attentive, kind, welcoming, and so hospitable. They were accommodating toward my party’s specific and unique needs (our group played dungeons and dragons). Chef’s food was so good it brought me to tears. Our dinner attendant Aislyn was bubbly, sweet, and very attentive, as was Abigail. Jessie was an absolute doll and very very kind. The MVP of my stay was Braddford our footman. Though my stay was brief I truly felt at home while simultaneously feeling teleported through time. I definitely recommend sunsets on the balcony and the hike to the caves.

Smithmore was awesome! Abbie, our server for dinner, was obviously a kind person on top of being very knowledgeable of dining etiquette. I enjoyed the way the service made me feel at ease. We came here to play Dungeons and Dragons with a group of 6 and highly recommend it for the same!

We travelled all the way from Sydney, Australia and stayed in this amazing castle perched at 4,000 ft elevation. Fabulous food by chef Benjamin served in the formal dining room by butler Bradford. Slept in a great room with balcony and our own tower

To say that the experience was divine would be an understatement. I stayed at SMITHMORE as part of a bachelor party for 4 days, and it was excellent. Chef Ben is a true master of his craft. The staff, particularly the head Footman, Bradford, were ever prompt and professional mediate to anticipate and serve our needs. The scenery is extraordinary, the Michelin quality food was exceptional. Frankly, it has spoiled all future travel for me as this is the standard by which all other travel experienced will be compared.

I took my mother and sister here and we all had an amazing time thanks to chef Benjamin and Bradford. The food was amazing and we couldn’t have asked for a better tour. My mom couldn’t stop raving about it, she found it much more personal than biltmore and we are planning on going back soon. We cannot recommend it enough.

A castle in the sky! If you are looking for a getaway this is your place. 5-star service all around, but not stuffy or pretentious. Genuinely, an interesting place with one of the best views you’ll find in the area compare to other resorts - and they won’t be castles. Ben is truly a culinary artist, and the food is some of the best I’ve ever had. Having eaten at a few Michelin-rated meals, I would suggest trying this place before they get their star(s).

Beautiful get away! Spent 2 nights here and the views were breath taking. But best of all, the food! Chef Benjamin and his staff blew me away with the entire dining experience, from the smells, tastes, textures and the combinations, not once did I even look for the salt & pepper shakers! And the icing on the perverbial cake? Chef Benjamin and his wife themselves! As professional and courteous as you needed them to be, they were also absolutely delightful to set and chat with, share laughs and truly enjoy their company. Highly recommend!

Food was exceptional. Chef Ben runs an extraordinary kitchen with imagination and flair. He’s also very friendly. The staff is wonderful with Deborah who gave an impeccable tour. They were low key and accommodating. The location is a dream from the Audio tour and amenities. This is all topped off my an amazing room with breathtaking detail.

Saw Smithmore on TV and decided to splurge and give them a try. I've traveled all over and have stayed at luxury hotels like the Montage, Pendry, Trump Tower, Wynne and Ritz Carltons. I would say that Smithmore, although doesn't offer hundreds of rooms is up to par in terms on amenities and luxuries (in my opinion). And if you find that the amenities and luxuries are sub par with those other fancy hotels out there, I can assure you that the high end cuisine by Chef Benjamin Epicure and Concierge staff will surely surpass the other hotels.

So I won't leave a lengthy review, but we just stayed 6 nights over Christmas at the castle. Chef Benjamin is the first reason we accepted the higher cost and he surley did not disappoint as in each and every way he outdid himself and went above and beyond to appease some more difficult eaters in our party of 5. We left with a happy feeling of being in a food coma, so yes Benjamin "mission accomplished". The castle is beautifully and most serenly located on the top of the Appalachian mountains overlooking the valleys and surrounding peaks. The sunrise and sunset on our last day was an absolute spectacle of nature most incredible to say the least! Away from the hustling and bustling of our day to day lives, this was worth it for us as family to unwind, eat, sleep, play and do as we please. To the very accommodating staff, a big Thank You, as due to Cheistmas they were short staffed and likewise did everything to make our stay most comfortable.

Stunning castle hidden high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, America’s only 5 star castle. The views were breathtaking, the rooms stunning, and the food and service were divine. Highly recommend the charcuterie board, the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, as well as the flatbreads.

We had our dream wedding at Smithmore Castle on 10/21/23. I wish we could give more than 5 stars to this venue. The venue is one of the most beautiful, magical places you will ever be and we are so blessed to have had our wedding here. Our guests were blown away with the view, the wonderful staff and the gourmet food prepared by Chef Benjamin! It was so special. We HIGHLY recommend this venue and cannot wait to go back soon!!

We hosted our daughter’s wedding at the Smithmore Castle. We loved the event space, and the staff was extremely accommodating and kind. The venue was beautiful, truly everything we dreamed of and more. Chef Benjamin’s custom cake was exquisite. The chef was even able to prepare a completely separate dish for our guest with food allergies. We are so happy with how our special day turned out! Thank you Smithmore!

Yesterday my now hubby and I were wed at the balcony at the Castle. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect location (or weather on 12/31 for that matter!). The Castle is definitely unique and there is different character in each room which only adds to the experience. I don't think I can say enough about all the staff and their attentiveness. There may have been a few snafus (what event doesn't have something?) but the wedding was one to remember. Special kudos to Chef who made a special breakfast for us and every meal was spectacular indeed. My family who are usually the typical "meat-n-tater" group even enjoyed the dining experience (that says A LOT , believe me). I really don't think I can rave enough or give enough stars to everyone at Smithmore Castle. We will see you guys hopefully sooner than later....now I have to go operate. ;)
