Today I received the best haircut of my life from Amanda at Shapers. Before my appointment, we reviewed my inspiration photo and discussed modifications that would best suit my hair and haircare routine. Her technique flattered my natural texture and the shape of the cut framed my face perfectly. With brand new crown layers, curtain bangs, and a little snip off my ends, I left my appointment feeling like Stevie Nicks. 11/10 would recommend.

Here’s what I love about Shapers… EVERYTHING! Great, friendly staff, and although the only thing I do is get a hair cut/style, it is so important!! Sean is amazing, really. I have super difficult hair (he did not say this)… so thin and as I’m aging even worse. Loved hair the minute I left, but after styling myself this morning I get to see the shape. Amazing!! My thin sort of dry hair looks almost full and it’s the look I’m going for. Thank you all and see you in the new year :)

I came in with complicated requests, and the Shapers staff did everything to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Erica did my hair, but the whole staff is great, you can’t go wrong here!

UPDATE: I'm still unhappy with my hair, but I called Shapers to see if they happened to keep extensions on hand (they don't) and they've been nothing but nice to me. One of the owners called me personally to apologize and offered to add to the highlights I got free of cost so I could be happier with my hair. Extremely nice people and great customer service. So I wanted to really like this place and my haircut from there, but unfortunately I don't like my cut at all. I will start with the good though. The building is super cute, clean and well-maintained. It used to be a house and the way it's been renovated into a salon is pretty awesome, I like it much better than a typical salon look. The people there are all very, very friendly and accommodating. I brought my 5 year old son with me and they were all SO nice to him. They set him up in his own chair so he could color, they talked to him and asked him questions, gave him stickers and even had books for him to read. I was amazed. My hairdresser kept saying how everyone there loved kids and it shows. We were there for a long time (highlights and cut) and towards the end my son was getting very antsy and getting on my nerves, but they were still all patient with him and kept telling me how good he was considering how long we had been there. So the highlights and the cut are where things fell down. I had a girl who I was told has worked in the industry for 7 years when I made the appointment. I asked that specifically because I didn't want to have my hair done by someone new, but it didn't help me too much. I should have made an appointment with one of the owners, but I had to wait over two weeks for my appointment with the girl I had, and the owners would have been longer. I got partial highlights and I'm not thrilled with them, they're okay, but I wish they were more prominent. We talked about it looking natural but that you could tell I had highlights done, but I don't think you can tell. To be fair, I'm not the best communicator when it comes to getting my hair done because I know next to nothing about hair. But I've gotten my hair done at many places throughout the years and I always say the same thing, and I've always liked my highlights better than I did this time. The bigger issue I have though is the cut. It was cut too short. She asked if I wanted it above the shoulders and I said yes, but she cut it much higher than just above the shoulders, maybe an inch too high? Also the layers are pretty boxy looking and pronounced, not blended in very well. The side swipe bangs she did a good job with. I just think she might have rushed the cut, I was amazed at how quickly she was done with that part. Again, I have no idea what past hairdressers have done because I know nothing about hair but I know they have done a lot more than what happened today. It's disappointing because I paid a lot of money today (not an unreasonable amount, seemed to be right around or even below every place else in the area) and I'm not happy with what I'm left with and I'm now just waiting for it to grow out so it's not so short.

Have known the owners since their beginning in the field, and followed them to different shops around New Paltz, but this location is the best.The business, housed in an elegant red brickTudor in the middle of town, has a homey atmosphere, with plenty of parking. Indoors, the shop is modern, clean and bright. Shapers receptionists are always friendly and their shampoo girls gentle. The team of stylists are experts: they listen closely, possess superior technical skills, a positive attitude, and treat every client as special The owners embrace technology, which helps in making their customer's visions come true. Everybody on staff seems happy, which rubs off on visitors. Cosmetology was always a passionate vocation for Kelly and Sean Hoolihan, and it shows in the wonderful atmosphere of Shapers.

Have been driving an hour and a half (each way!) for Kelly to cut my curly hair for 6+ years now!!! Found Shapers online and could sense how special it is soon as I arrived -- the salon is beautiful and everyone is really friendly and professional. There's such a warm and welcoming vibe. And Kelly is a complete and total gift -- super talented and a wonderful person all around. So grateful to have found Shapers and Kelly, and to leave better each time I go!
