Kurt is the only hairstylist I’ll go to now! I’ve come in a couple times, the most recent I was asking for a shag cut. I was able to describe the cut I was looking for and he understood me perfectly and gave me exactly what I wanted.

loved him but my hair is all messed up :( wanted a trim and long layers (shorter around the face) and got super uneven layers that are sporadically short and long and super short in the back and long by my face, uneven on both sides

I normally hate getting my hair cut because I always have bad experiences, but Kurt did an amazing job! He corrected issues from my last cut and left my hair looking gorgeous! He’s so sweet and just overall awesome. I would definitely recommend this place and I will be back next time I need my hair cut!

Kurt the stylist who cut my hair, wide enough because it was very damaged at the ends, and I loved the result, my hair looks shiny and manageable, Kurt is great. I'll definitely come back, thank you very much. Also, Kurt is a super sensitive and charismatic person.

Went in with half my hair feeling like straw (seriously, so dry and broken I couldn’t brush it without taking out whole strands), left with it being back to smooth and shiny! Kurt was great— he gave me advice when I was unsure about what I wanted and made me feel comfortable enough to ask him to change my “just take off all the dead ends” trim into a bob. Thank you!!

Kurt did an amazing job with my hair today! He literally knew what I wanted as soon as I stepped in. His experience as well as his stories and genuineness were worth much more than what the haircut/style cost me (he offers student discounts as well!). He was able to fit me and my boyfriend in within an hour, and we both loved him and his work! I adored his space too -- so beautiful and personal, a real gem nestled in downtown. We will both definitely be coming back again!

Amazing hairstylist and Kurt is an amazing person!!:) Got a women’s haircut (student discount too!) with layers and he did such a good job! Will definitely be coming back and will recommend Salon in the City to others. Kurt has such uplifting, enthusiastic, and sweet energy that will make your day- I really appreciate the impact he had on my day in particular. Talented hairstylist and prices are the EXTREMELY reasonable especially compared to other places in Indianapolis. Highly recommend:)

For a long time I was looking for a good hairstylist, somebody who understood what I wanted and what I needed and was skilled enough to get me that hair style (I am very fussy about my hair and almost always leave hair salon with feeling of disappointment, but not this salon!). Kurt happened to be one of the few stylists who was exactly that. He occupies a small salon but what a talent! He is truly a hidden gem! He really knew what style of hair fit me the best and has gifted pair of hands! I will be coming back regularly.

I found Salon in the City through a quick google search for hair salons around me and I loved the reviews about Kurt and his personality. For me, a haircut is not just a haircut, it’s a whole self-care experience that I prefer to have at a kind and warm environment and Salon in the City was exactly that. Kurt is a professional, he asked me a lot of questions to make sure he knew what I wanted in my new haircut and gave me precisely what I asked for. We talked the entire time and by the end of my session I felt like I’ve gained a new friend. Highly recommended.

I have been to Kurt multiple times with my fiancé to get her hair cut and after many good experiences with her, decided to get my hair cut by him as well. Not only is he great company while waiting or getting a hair cut, he always cuts our hair exactly right. As someone who is not very versed in hair styling, I struggle to explain how I want my hair cut very well. However, despite this, Kurt always knows how to cut and style our hair better than we know how to explain it. Every hair cut we get, we walk out very pleased with the cut we got and the conversation had. After growing my hair out for many years, my hair has never looked better than after my most recent trim and style by Kurt. He is very fun, personal, knowledgeable, and skilled. Definitely recommend.

I met Kurt while doing some landscape work out front. He was very nice and said he could take care of my long curly hair in need of a trim up with no problem, just to shoot him a text on his cell number! He’s been cutting and styling for over 30 years. Great location and free parking! Thanks Kurt!

Kurt did a fantastic job on my hair!! I shaved my head two years ago and haven’t gotten it cut since, so I was really nervous about cutting it. Kurt was extremely welcoming and friendly straight from the beginning, listened to what I had to say, and checked in frequently throughout the haircut to ensure that it was how I wanted. He was also super fast, probably the fastest haircut I’ve ever had, but it’s also the best haircut I’ve ever had! It was such a cute little salon, and Kurt is just such a lovely person. I will definitely be back!

Kurt had so many great reviews (and Saturday appointments) and really reasonable rates, so I went to him for my first haircut since I moved to Indiana. I was able to book online, which was super-easy. He creates a very warm and comfortable environment at his salon, and I got a really wonderful haircut here. He is very kind, really listened to what I requested, and I felt really at ease here. This is (fortunately) not one of those salons where you feel pressured to buy products or get additional services that you don't want. He really cares about his clients and creating looks for them that make them feel like the best versions of themselves. I'll be back for sure. Thanks, Kurt!

Kurt's environment is uniquely him, and he definitely strives to love the people he cares for; he's one of the most genuine individuals I have met, and his kindness and skill (not to mention prices) granted me a new found confidence without breaking the bank. Kurt it a king :_) you can tells he’s such a genuine and down to earth person. I went in for a layered cut and he took care of me in a very charming and efficient way. By far the best hairdresser experience hands down. 100% recommend.

Kurt made me look so damn cute, and was honest with me about not needing to get my eyebrows done. A genuinely down to earth hair stylist with talent! I also love what he’s done with the place, so chic and cozy! Will definitely be a regular here.

This could be a long review, but I’ll keep it short. The whole cut felt careless. I had come to this salon hoping to make some changes to my normal style, and it felt like the stylist just wanted to do his own thing. I showed lots of pictures and talked through the cut, but he quickly jumped to cutting and took way more off than I wanted. I’m sure I could have explained better, but just a fair warning that you need to be crystal clear what you’re asking for, because there will be no slow down to really clarify. The crown ended up spiked even after talking about the cow lick, sideburn was slanted badly and I had to fix when I got home. Just seemed like he closed his eyes and hoped it would be the haircut I wanted instead of taking time to really confirm we were on the same page. No offer to make it better, just a “come pay me another $30 after the 2 months it’ll take you to grow it out again and I’ll try harder”
