I've been here a handful of times. They seem to have a ton of staff turnover as I've never been able to book with the same stylist twice. I really liked the first one, and the second one was fine. On my last visit, the stylist told me that I'm too old for the haircut I wanted (which was not a radical change from my current hair at all) and refused to do it. She said if I thought about it for a month and still wanted it, I could book again and then she would do it. I'm only 33 but she acted like I'm ancient. I don't think I'll be going back. It's too much of a roulette.

I've been here three times in the last year, and had three different stylists each time. Molly (the owner), Meghan, and Kayla have each worked on my hair to different extents, and I've been very happy each time. I always come in with multiple pictures and a general idea of what I want, but struggle to fully communicate what I'm looking for, and each has been very patient with me and are able to help me achieve the goals I have for my hair and help undo lots of the abuse it gets from me between appointments. The aesthetics of the salon and river market are gorgeous, and they even provide snacks or beverages as a part of their service. I'm surprised to see a few one star reviews lately, all about the same time frame. Makes me wonder if maybe one girl was offended and asked her friends to review bomb. 😅🤷‍♀️ Regardless, in my experience, Roots and Branches is full of beautiful humans in a beautiful location. I'm very happy to have found this salon, and plan on continuing to come back in the future. ❤️

Just fyi MOST stylists make MORE money doing weddings in 4 hours than working behind the chair for 8 hours 😘

I first picked roots and branches based on their pictures and reviews, it looked like a super cute, cozy shop and it is! I’ve been going to Trilby since I moved here about 3 years and she nails it every time, even the days I don’t know what exactly what I want I always end up loving it. Ive recommended this shop to co workers and friends who also had great experiences with other stylists so I can’t recommend enough!

I had my first visit there with Trilby today after she was highly recommended. I’ve had really bad luck since I moved to KCMO from Miami, Fl back in 2018 finding a good hair salon. The place is really nice and close to Rivermarket. I parked at the Arabian Steamboat Museum parking lot across the salon. Once I arrived she came out and introduced herself, she was super understanding of what I wanted and knowledgeable of what options I had, to look my best .. I listened to her advice and I have to say, I absolutely love my hair. I got lots of compliments at my dance class after my appointment with her. We had a very long conversation since I was there for about 3 hours. She did a balayage , haircut and my eyebrows .. needless to say, I set up my follow up appointment before I left.. She is AMAZING .. thank you so much for today Trilby. I feel so confident with my new hair .. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT .. 🫶🏼

I really wanted to like this place!! My review has nothing to do with my stylist, she was and is 5 stars but the owner of this salon is absolutely awful. When I arrived I did not know she was the owner until later but my interaction with her was rude and judgmental. She asked who I was here for and once I said my stylist she rolled her eyes and walked off. Later during my service she was talking very loudly to her client very poorly about “small town” stylist that are the “bottom” of the industry. Making comments about clients that come from small towns and are shocked by her pricing “ It’s not what you charge but what you can charge”. I found Molly extremely judgmental and only wanting and very certain “client” in her business. I would not recommend supporting this very judgmental and rude small business owner.

I went to Molly for a curly cut, which she said was one of her specialties. I also have shaved sides. I asked her to clean up the lines in the back, where I can't see when I shave it myself. She did not. She also blew out my hair with a round brush and then heat styled it to mimic the look of curls. Once I washed it, those curls disappeared, and are still trying to recover. I didn't know my hair was so curly until I shaved the sides - it's very thick. So I'm sad that I didn't know enough to advocate better for myself, and frustrated that I trusted a professional who didn't deserve my trust. She *might* have done better if she wasn't trying to hurry and work simultaneously on my hair AND someone else’s. But if heat styling and straightening are part of her curly cut process, I doubt it.

I went to the salon a few days ago and had the hair stylist Molly highlight my hair. When I walked in I had healthy shiny hair the ends were dry but I had her cut three inches off. I walked out with ashy dull dry hair. I have never been so disappointed. Molly and her assistant were very unprofessional. They were more interested in gossiping about their exes, what they were going to eat for lunch, and playing on their phones. I paid almost $200 for the service which would have been fine if I would have received the results I asked for. Maybe it was an off-day for them but I suffered at their expense.

I’ve been going here for a couple years and they’ve always done a great job. More recently in October, Roots & Branches did my wedding hair & makeup and Rachel did an amazing job. We ended up doing 2 trials to get it just right and she was so helpful. My hair rarely holds a curl and after the trials I wasn’t confident that it would hold through the day, but she pulled it off on the wedding day just like she said she would! My hair & makeup, as well as my bridesmaids, mom, & grandma were all perfect.

Megan Carr is my stylist here at this Salon, she is amazing, very talented, super friendly woman. Cost is very reasonable in my opinion and everything you get for the $$. Great location awesome feel when you enter very clean, all staff friendly nice.

Roots and branches is the bee knees! Had a friend recommend this place & I've never been happier with a haircut! Jordin was very kind and attentive, listened closely to what I was looking for and did an amazing job. This will be my go to spot from now on. This was my first time going to a salon ever let alone had a color change. I came in wanting an ash blonde balayage but because my hair is super dark to start with, Molly made sure to go a comfortable amount of shades lighter. Molly was amazing in working with my hair and went above and beyond what I could have hoped for. She truly exceeded my expectations and I got so many compliments going home afterwards. I truly got my money’s worth and will be recommending the salon to my friends and family.

I’ve gone to Rachel ever since she started there and I’ve never been disappointed! I’m very dark naturally and I had wanted to add blonde in my hair for a long time, but I was too afraid of frying it! Rachel takes her time to listen to what I want, look at pictures, and discuss with me the reality of what she can get my hair to look like without damaging it. I love where my hair is at right now because of her! Pictures are from my most recent appointment.

Roots & Branches was the first salon I tried in KC, and I’m sticking with them! I saw Patricia. She did a fantastic job of coloring my hair as I requested. All of the women at this salon are so welcoming and friendly and the salon space is so cute. Also very fair pricing. I’m making this place my salon home. Thank you!
