Kate L. did a curly balayage on me and I was over the moon with the results. It was my first time ever adding color to my hair and she made me feel very confident and informed throughout the entire process. I cannot recommend her enough!

I have curly hair, and I love that Ann does a dry cut. It’s the best haircut I’ve ever had. Also, Ann is the coolest, and everyone in the salon is super nice and fun. Highly recommend!

I'm obsessed with this salon. I've been to several places around GR and as a queer person with wavy/curly hair, nothing beats the experience I've had at Palace Flophouse. They really make an effort to get to know you and your hair and genuinely want to get you the best style possible, and they specialize in curly cuts and alternative styles. Also gender free pricing yall. I've never felt more comfortable being open and honest with my stylist all throughout the process. I can't recommend Kate enough!! Go to her, get a mullet, be happy. 🙏

Palace Flophouse Salon is by far the best place to get your hair done in Grand Rapids! I have been seeing Ann, the owner, for 10 years now and have always had the best experience. Not only is she so wildly talented at what she does, she is also very thoughtful and the best listener. When leaving the Salon not only does my hair look great, but I feel like I just had the best time hanging out with a great person.

Ann is one of the most talented stylists in Michigan. I love her attention to detail with every aspect of the experience…I did a consultation and she went above and beyond with making sure the lighting with mirror, level of conversation, touch etc on a scale of (1-10) where exactly at the levels I preferred. She uses her gifts as an empath to make sure you leave feeling your best. You won’t find attention to detail like this outside of high end spas in larger markets. Thanks Palace Flophouse!

Genuinely one of the worst hair cuts I have ever received. I went in showed the lady a picture of exactly what I wanted with different angles to make sure she would get what I am looking for. I came out with way less hair than I wanted and horrendous layering. It actually is absurd how it came out in comparison to the photo. The layers aren't even (let alone the rest of the hair) and at some point it genuinely felt like she was playing a prank on me after I told her my traumatizing experience from the last hair cut I had done else where. I don't like to leave reviews, but I cannot believe I looked for a hairstylist with a portfolio for a couple of years and trusted they could do this within their means to only leave my hair horrendous with 80$ down the drain. It's actually heartbreaking, I am still upset.

I have had haircuts from many of the stylists here and it always looks amazing. I have had my nails done here as well. Flawless! They ask a lot of questions and really care about their work. I have curly hair and I wear it straight sometimes and the cuts always work for both. Good vibes and music too.

I’ve been coming here for 5 years now and wouldn’t consider anyone else cutting my hair. The best service you’ll find in West Michigan, or anywhere else for that matter. So much attention to detail is paid by their stylists; all done in a modern, yet comfortable, setting.

My hair turned out nice both times! So thank you for that. The part I want to comment on is when I was waiting for my appointments, the owner of the shop was talking with a client in the chair about another client who had come in “with dark energy” and then I heard them speaking about people “ignoring divine intervention”. Cool hair or not, it’s not a great experience to hear the owner speaking negatively about other clients who are acquaintances. Since sharing my experience with others in the community, it is to no surprise that I am not the only one who’s felt uncomfortable in this business. Personally, if I’m having a bad day I’m not going to try and spread it to others, but it would be nice to get my hair done without feeling judged or like when I leave I will be talked about with the next client. Keep it to hair & this salon does well. I’d give more stars if they’d learn to not only be Michigan nice, but provide a space that has some integrity behind it, too.
