I moved up to Wappingers about 4 years ago from Brooklyn. Since that time, I have traveled 1 1/2 hours going to Harlem to get my hair braided and another 1 1/2 to come back. This week, I decided to try this spot as I am tired of traveling to Harlem for braids. I googled hair braiders near me, and Fatou's came up. I decided to give them a try, and I am glad I did!! I had a 9 a.m. appointment today (Sunday) and was out by 1 p.m. Khady did my knotless braids. She was efficient and gentle. She did a fabulous job!! I will definitely be returning!! No more long train rides to Harlem!!

As I'm currently in the chair getting my hair done , I've decided to write a review .. I have had my fair share of hair salons over the last 30 years , and none have compared to Fatou's here in Poughkeepsie! Her pricing is great and each and every employee Including herself touch your hair with love and grace ! I will not go anywhere else , or let anyone touch my head but the women here! . They have beautiful services here, the shop is always a blast to be in. This place is the top notch braiding shop here in Poughkeepsie! I highly recommend you come and share with friends and family your experience! ♥️

Djie did my braid about a week ago! I’m in love still! I got boho waist length braids and she did amazing! Took her time! Nice clean parts! Very gentle braided didn’t pull on my hair or anything! Definitely will book with her again 🙂

I LOVE COMING HERE TO GET MY HAIR DONE I LEAVE MY HAIR IN FOR AT LEAST 2 TO 3 MONTHS MY NEW GROWTH COMES IN AND MY BRAIDS STILL LOOK GOOD .ALSO THEY GROW MY HAIR .PAULINE ALWAYS DO MY HAIR. I have gone to Fatou’s multiple times and am always so happy with the results! She works so fast and is never too rough. All the women who work at her salon are talented and so kind. I recommend to anyone in the area for reasonably priced, flawless braids.

I have to praise such a gem I have stumbled upon! With history of going to any random hair braiding salon, Fatou is one of the BEST in my 41 yrs! I drive a hr n half for the care n love they all provide for hair and experience!!!! From the kindness and professionalism, to the high qualities of hair she provides, to where I had my braids in with swimming n washing and it lasted 2 months. My hair was not dry or broken from the extensions and looking super kept up. I see it as all the staff have hands of gold to care for our crowns 👑 so that our hair is thriving! Thank you for such a warm welcome from day one and continuously doing an outstanding job! Fatou also will make sure no matter what uncertainty you may have, you leave with results that make you feel taken care of which is priceless!!! Thank you dearly 💋

The sweetest people you will ever meet!! Fatou and her crew really are the best around here. They are very kind and accommodating, and even provide hair. The hair they provide is very high quality and comes in many styles and colors. My braider was incredible as she not only did it quickly, but also paid much attention to detail and made sure it looked good. It took 5 1/2 hours to do my boho braids, a lot quicker than other places around here. It was a bit pricey as mine was $300, but for upstate, that’s very good as other places charge the same amount and don’t even provide hair!! Don’t expect bronx prices, but definitely worth coming to!

I visited this amazing salon with my daughter and niece. The beauticians were wonderful, and the atmosphere was great. They did a fantastic job on my daughter's and niece's hair, exactly like the pictures I showed them. Everyone working there was so respectful and attentive. They even offer you a bottle of cold water while you wait. I highly recommend this salon - it's the best African hair braiding salon around!

Fatou’s hair braiding is great. First off so kind and generous, secondly very quick and neat. Im still in love with the boho that has been in my hair for 2 months. Still very beautiful not tingled and very easy to manage. All the ladies in her shop are very generous and when you make an appointment she is always on time. I’m actually going back in a few weeks to get some box braids. First place in awhile. I most certainly will be a regular.

I came with my own hair (human hair) and there were 3 ladies. I ask the lady that I spoke too fatou sister I think 🤔, and asked her how much it will cost to box braid the middle of my hair since the sides and back are shaved, she act like she didn’t know how much it would cost to braid my hair with human hair. So she asked one of the other ladies and the lady did not want to be bothered, So She came up with a price of 150 and then when I said no thanks she asked me how much will I pay and I said 100 and she said she would go down to 140 so I said I will just go to the Bronx where I usually go. My complaint is if I am just getting a small portion of my hair done and me bring in my own hair why must I be charged as if I am getting my whole head done, please make it make sense. And I forgot she acted as if she can’t braid with human hair only synthetic which African do you know that can’t braid with both? I am glad I didn’t let her braid my hair, I am pretty sure it would have not come out right.

I highly recommend Fatou's African Braiding Salon. I was delighted with the hair braiding service I received and plan to return. The rate quoted was fair for the style I requested. On an unrelated note, the staff in the salon are some of the hardest-working people I have ever seen; very impressive.

The one time I went, I got Fulani braids. They were done very neatly. It took 8h which was a bit long but nothing out the ordinary for my hair texture and thickness. Their prices are standard I would say and you’re going to get the same anywhere else in the area give or take $10

Fatou and her staff are great. I stumbled across her braiding salon on an accident. Pricing and availability were unmatched that it was worth the hour drive from my home to Poughkeepsie. I sat in the chair 8:30AM, she started braiding at 8:45AM, took a break or two and I still walked out out and was starting my car to leave by 12:45PM… ~4 hours total!!! That just can’t be beat. Fatou is prompt in her responses. Respectful in her communication. And just overall pleasant. I’ve already shared her info with several friends and I personally plan to be back again.

I moved to Dutchess County and wanted to have my hair braided for the winter. I did a quick Google search and Fatou's business was the second to pop up. I called her instead of the first businesses and I knew I made the right choice She informed me I needed an appointment. I went to my appointment and was met with a warm welcoming presence. She is structured and kind... Professional but warm. My braider (Faton) was gentle. To top it off, Fatou seemed very caring to her employees not just clients. There was young lady (employee) that seemed to be in training and Fatou was respectful as she instructed her. I highly recommend this business, would give it a 10 if that was an option. Blessings

I’ve been going to fatou’s for over 9 years now and I’ve always received the best service, I have a very sensitive scalp so finding braiders who are gentle and patient can be difficult but fatou’s has truly been a blessing. I am also a model so fatou’s is always my go to when I need fresh braids for a photoshoot!

This was my first time visiting Fatou’s shop and I absolutely loved it. It was such a nice environment and I have never gotten better braids, they were gorgeous and done very fast for waist length braids. I will definitely be a loyal customer from now on!
