Listen, Alcove Hair is the place to go. I followed my stylist from a prior salon to this one. Oddly, 4 separate people I know come to various stylists here! And we all love them. Emily Hoffman is iconic, wonderful, talented, kind, attentive, and a master at her craft. SLC doesn’t have a plethora of gender-affirming hair stylists either, which Emily is just that. She welcomes, supports, and cheers on those in her chair and helps us all feel more at home in our own bodies. Her color work is stunning. Gives a killer cut. And you’re going to laugh and smile through the whole process. I love Alcove and love Emily.

Alcove Hair is the best hair salon I have ever been to. Kat has brought my hair to a healthy and beautiful condition and I get great comments on my hair now. She is the best beautician I've ever had. Thank you Kat for the many years of great hair care.

Ashley Sant takes wonderful care of me so that I feel beautiful. I met Ashley at a friend’s dinner party, taking note of her beautiful mermaid hair. I was delighted to discover she would share her talents and have been a client ever since. She tames my curly texture and gives me the best version of any request I bring her. The studio is conveniently located, clean and comfortable and they always play interesting music of a wide variety.

Lizi is amazing! She did a great job texturizing my hair and the blowout was 💯! She is also very welcoming and fun to talk to. You can't go wrong having her do your hair!

I don't just trust anyone with my curly hair, but I trust Alicia! She trimmed and shaped my curls into a healthy cut to reach my length goals and did not over step cutting off too much. I appreciated her attention to asking about scalp sensitivity during my cut (curls, well you know they get knotty) and suggestions for style cream afterwards. If you have curly hair, you are in great hands, I will be getting my hair cut here at Alcove as long as I am in SLC.

I have been going to Ashley Sant for about 10 years now. She has done everything from color, cuts, glosses, event updos, and perms for my family. In October, she did me and my partner’s hair for our wedding. Ashley listened and executed our hair visions perfectly. Our hair lasted through all of our dancing and looked good even as we were leaving our wedding. I highly recommend Ashley for any of your hair styling needs!

I can't say enough good about this salon; the stylists are all so friendly and knowledgeable, my hair always turns out exactly the way I want it and I get many people asking who does my hair because Chandra is able to achieve such a nice blonde! The overall experience is always a treat - the owner of the salon has created such a nice, beautiful ambiance and the sinks are the most comfortable I've ever had my hair washed in. They support your neck so well and are truly like just lying on a flat massage table. I love Alcove!

I have been going to Chandra Frei (salon owner) for my hair cuts, colors, special event styling, and yes… even a perm, for years and have LOVED every visit. Her experience is very evident in her abilities, professionalism, communication during the services and advice on post-care. Alcove is a cute salon loaded with plants, sunlight, great products and fun art pops. I 10/10 recommend a visit!!

I have gone to Chandra a number of times and have never been disappointed. The salon is clean and has a really cool ambiance, all the stylists are friendly and they have great product offerings. I would not go anywhere else!

I love getting my hair done here. It’s clean, lovely atmosphere and the hair stylists are all very friendly. I go to Chandra. She always listens to exactly what I want and doesn’t go too short or too long. They also have lots of great product to choose from. Highly recommend this salon.

I really love the salon experience at Alcove. It’s a beautiful space, immaculately clean, and everything about it promotes relaxation. Chandra is an amazing stylist! I’ll never go to anyone else now that I’ve found her. The color and blending always comes out perfect. She also helped transition me out of having had bangs for my whole life in a way that felt “safe” (it was a big step for me) and even repaired some problem areas of hair loss. Really glad to have finally found Alcove.

What a beautiful and welcoming space! All the stylists are very friendly and Alicia always does a great job with my curls. She always gets the shape I want even when I’m struggling to describe it 😅 AND I don’t think men’s cuts are even her specialty. Highly recommend!!

My thoughts of this place are still a bit scattered but I’ve gone a few times each with different people to have gathered some thoughts about it. One of the first times I went in I was getting my hair cut/fixed by Ashley Sant. She is amazing. Before going to her, I had gotten my hair cut somewhere else and they had completely botched it. I mean uneven layering, color was horrible, and uneven length on both sides of my part and head. When I booked with Ashley it was purely off a recommendation from another employee working there. Ashley was super kind and gentle with me and always asked what I wanted before moving on to cut my hair again. I loved my hair after that. Like 5 stars for her. This was a year ago in April. Then I just went in again a few days ago but this time to Nick. Again he was recommended by another employee there. Believing that my experience would be similar to the last I went in confident that Nick would be great. This time I wanted my hair to be cut and to be colored/fixed. A few months ago I had gotten my hair balayage’d and the girl at the other salon had done pretty horribly. Too brassy of a color, horrible blending so you could see exactly where my naturally hair color is a where the balayage began. So I wanted to go in to try and get my hair fixed. I didn’t want that crown of color to be so prominent and I didn’t want it nearly as brassy as it was. Nick did a great job choosing a less yellow-y color but he only bleached and applied to the surface sections of my hair. So none of the under side was fixed. To me... that was odd... then we went on to cutting my hair. My hair was loooong but it was super unhealthy at the ends so we cut off quite a bit. I noticed that he was starting to cut more of a straight line across the back of my hair. Sort of like a bob? I asked him to make the back look more rounded like a U shape and with layers. Thankfully we were able to change it before it was too late. When he began doing the layers though.... he only layered the top sections of my hair... also odd... I have very thick Korean hair and I have never ever liked it without layers. It becomes too thick to handle and very heavy. So ever since I was a baby I’ve always loved getting well blended layers. I admit that I should have said something to him while he was cutting. My fault there. I did sort of think that maybe he was planning on cutting layers on the top half then section it off to do layers on the bottom half. Nope. He blow dried my hair, made it look good in the mirror, and sent me off. A few days later I realized how oddly the layers were cut so I reached out to him asking if he’d be able to fix it. No reply. Makes me think he genuinely doesn’t care. I could be wrong though. So now I’m going to another salon to get layers cut in. In total, I paid about $250 (including a $30 tip) for cut and balayage fix. Which he only did to the top half of my head... I feel slightly wronged. I had two completely different experiences there. And to me this indicates that Alcove Hair Collective isn’t bad or anything. It just means that each person in there has their own set of skills and knowledge as well as ability to work with their clients. I think both did great in their own ways and each person has their own way to work. But I think it is important to make sure that walks out genuinely happy with what they get. And stays happy with it for the days after. Here are some photos of my hair. The order of the photos came out weird when uploading them. Last 3: before anything was cut. Second 3: right after it was cut. The way Nick tried to fix it was... weird. It still looks too prominent and not well blended. First 3: a few days after. This is my natural hair, nothing done to it which is how I usually leave my hair. You can see underneath the previously done balayage has not changed and placement and blending is still pretty bad. Nick didn’t really fix the undersides.

Ashley has been my stylist for over four years, and I love her dearly. The little salon is nice as well, although it is a little tricky to find at first -- it is hidden inside the Maven Well section on the second floor.

Nick is the bomb. He took the time to really get to know my hair the first time he cut it, and was able to cut and style according to my specific hair type. Alcove is full of talented people and I highly recommend.
